CLASS DESCRIPTION: Play the role of Demi Moore’s character in “Ghost,” as you explore the mystery of the pottery wheel.  Fundamental techniques, such as learning to center, throw, and trim a variety of forms, including cups, plates, and bowls can be altered to create a beautiful work of art, with the extended use of glazes, slips, and washes.  This course will also help you get that much closer to mastering your skills. Learn lids, handles, spouts, joined forms, glaze preparation, decoration and other techniques.

CLAY HANDBUILDING

CLASS DESCRIPTION:  You’ll be learning a variety of clay techniques, learning inventive ways of working with slabs, coils, and pinching to create virtually any form you can dream up.  Experiment with a wide range of color and texture using slips, stains, and glazes on your functional or sculptural artworks.  You’ll learn basic skills in hand building, offering you the opportunity to experiment and find your niche.

FIGURATIVE SCULPTURE
Level: Multi-Level

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Throughout the course, we will study anatomy, proportions and observe the basic geometrical shapes that can be used as guides for building human sculpture.  Students will gain a basic understanding of materials and techniques that can be used to build the human figure in ceramics. During the course period, we will learn the anatomical differences between the sexes, major races and ages.  Students will have to complete a hand, a full body sculpture, and a bust in the course period.  We will use the class time for demonstrations, exercises and study of anatomy with the live model.
