Our artists studio spaces are all-new construction, located within a historic building. Available studios range in size from 132 square feet to 477 square feet and are appropriate for painting, drawing, clay, jewelry, digital, sculpture, fiber and printmaking.

River East Art Center Artist Residency: CALL FOR ARTISTS
Submission Deadline: February 28, 2010

River East Art Center is located between the famous Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier, in the desirable Streeterville neighborhood. Once called the North Pier building, River East Art Center opened its doors in 2005. Since 2007, River East Art Center has been the creative home to Artists in Residence. River East Art Center’s Residency Program is comprised of a diverse group of experienced painters, sculptors, ceramicists, jewelers, and metalsmiths that occupy many of the artist studios. Located on the Lower Level in the east and west wings that surround River East Art Center’s beautiful multi-story atrium, a vibrant arts community is growing. River East Art Center is in convenient proximity to Fox & Obel’s market and café, Bobby’s Bikes, Chicago from the Lake’s boat tours, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, Millinneum Park and much more.
 
River East Art Center prides itself on being a lively community of artists learning and working in a non-competitive environment, which encourages and inspires artistic growth in the individual as well as creative collaborations. River East Art Center provides a wealth of artistic programming from Project 465 classes and workshops to Arts Work! nights which showcase the diversity of Chicago’s artistic community across multiple disciplines within the arts. River East Art Center is celebrated as a dynamic arts destination and award-winning events venue.
River East Art Center Residency Program is a two-year long studio based program open to artists working in painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber, ceramics, jewelry. We have a limited use facility for both metalsmithing and printmaking. We do not yet have a darkroom on site, but are hoping to acquire one in the near future.
River East Art Center Residency Program offers partially subsidized rental rates for the 20 studios, ranging in size from 132 square feet to 477 square feet.
In addition to maintaining studio spaces, many Resident Artists teach classes and lead workshops offered through Project 465 Art School, participate in lectures, panel discussions and exhibitions made possible through REpose Gallery, which is focused on showcasing work generated by artists in the Residency Program, who are active members of the REAC Artist community.
River East Art Center Resident Artists are selected through a jury process. If you would like to be considered for the February 2010 jury pool, please see submission guidelines.
 
River East Art Center Submission Guidelines
All applications to River East Art Center must contain the following items:
  • REAC Resident Artist Studio Application- www.rivereastartcenter.com/studios-application.php  
  • A brief statement describing why you wish to become a Resident Artist at River East Art Center. (Please explain what you feel you could gain from the experience, as well as what contribution(s) you might offer to the REAC Artist Community.)
  • 16-20 images of work (created within the last 5 years) as .jpg files on CD or DVD. Image files should be 150dpi, not exceed 1500dpi.in any direction and must be labeled with the artist’s name followed by an underscore and the corresponding image number. For example: Smith_1.jpg
  • Image List (pieces numbered with title, medium, dimensions, date) in chronological order. 
  • Artist Statement (describing your current body of work or artistic practice)
  • Artist Resumé (containing relevant education, work experience and exhibition history)
